Gardens

Living in an area of concentrated poverty typically means living in an area that is considered food insecure. Healthy, affordable foods are not in close proximity and cheaper, less-healthy alternatives are prevalent. For many of the families we serve, due to the high rents they pay or lack of income–they need to choose between healthier food items and other basic necessities. Why get in a car to go buy an apple, lettuce, carrots when there is a bag of chips right around the corner?

Passage Home has built two urban gardens in South Park, Raleigh where community members can just walk in and harvest any fresh produce that is ripe. At our gardens, we grow kale (lots of it), berries, carrots, mustard greens, and other seasonal items. By providing access to our gardens, community members save on their food budget and provide healthy meals to their families.

If you know someone who would like to volunteer in our garden, please contact Dynestie Robinson.
