Passage Home is proud to once again be a Bayer USA Foundation grant award recipient. Bayer USA Foundation continues to be a leader in an effort to decrease food insecurity and recognizes our efforts in Wake County.
Our Alpha Garden produces fresh fruits and vegetables for the community and has become an oasis in South Park, Raleigh. In 2018 we had over 700 volunteers work in the garden which helped us provide—free of charge—150 pounds of produce each month during the growing season to the community.
Food insecure areas create an additional hurdle for families dealing with poverty. They have little access to fresh fruits and vegetables and pay higher prices for what is available. Fresh produce is frequently replaced by cheaper processed food. This additional financial and health burden has long-term impacts on a family and communities health, further deepening the cycle of poverty.
We appreciate Bayer USA Foundation’s continued commitment to community level health and their $100,000 commitment to Passage Home.
